You’re a Hypocrite, Did You Know?

All the Bright Places (2020)

How do you treat yourself?

Would people stay if you treat them the same way you treat yourself? Only you can answer that.

Do you expect others to prioritize you as you prioritize them? You always see the best in people, viewing them through rose-tinted glasses. When your friends cry, you pat their backs, offering the kindest you’ve ever known, so why can’t you do that for yourself? Do you also wish to hear the soothing words you use to calm them? Are you comforting others so that you can be better at comforting yourself alone?

You’re a hypocrite, did you know?

“You’re not alone. You can always ask for my help.”

Can you ask for your help too?

In this suffocating world, the best you can do is be kinder to yourself. Stepping out of your comfort zone doesn’t have to be harsh — take your time. Instead of blaming yourself for not being like others, remember that being human means being imperfect. You can find perfection by accepting your flaws and weaknesses, which make you unique. If everyone were flawless, we’d all be exact copies of each other.

I may not know how many lives you’ve lived, but today is new. You can share your mistakes with people whom you trust and then, you’ll know what’s balance like — leaning on each other and learning together.

Admit that it’s difficult and stop diminishing your efforts. If you don’t acknowledge the fact that it was hard for you, you’ll always feel lacking, regardless of your achievements, which will hold you back. It’s hard to overcome this mindset, but I believe you can. Take small steps, one at a time, and appreciate the little things, both good and bad. This is what makes you who you are.

Don’t let deeply hurtful remarks make you hate yourself. Whisper to yourself that you did your best and it wasn’t so bad.

From what I see, you don’t hate the outcome, but you struggle with not meeting an imagined perfect version of yourself.

Thus, you can be the best version of yourself while embracing imperfection.

You are your worst enemy, but you are also your best ally.
